Popeye's adopted son made his first appearance July 24th, 1933. Well, we didn't actually see him until the 28th. He arrived in a package addressed to Popeye, and the contents were making so many strage sounds that Popeye and Wimpy were convinced it was some sort of poisonous creature and were about to shoot the box--good thing they didn't! Originally, Swee'pea was christened (with spinach, of course) as "Scooner Seawell Georgia Washenting Christiffer Columbia Daniel Boom" by Popeye, but his name eventually fell to the wayside and Popeye's nickname for the infant, "Swee'pea" completely replaced his true moniker.
