Ok forget what Homer and all those other humans have said about us, these are the real descriptions. Some people have called them embellished. They are not! I mean, 'embellished' is a fancy term for full of--Oh, whoops, gotta run, ICQ page from Hades...

Note from Sparky: Please remember that everything in Pain's Domain is based on the movie Hercules and not the series. So when I say 'characterized by Disney' or 'not characterized by Disney in the movie' I am referring only to the movie. I realize that descriptions on this page may disagree with the series, but I don't watch the series so I really don't care. :*) Thanks for listening.

Aethon
One of the four horses which pull Helios' chariot. Aethon is the strongest-willed and most difficult to control.
Atropos*animated and characterized by Disney
Atropos the Inflexible is the fate of the Future. She is responsible for snipping the Thread of Life for each mortal on Earth when their times are up. She is the youngest, and possibly the most eccentric.
Ascalaphus
Ascalaphus (or "Cal") is what any young woman would describe as a true geek. He is skinny, hunched-over, pock-faced, and to be honest, he drools a bit. Smarmy and rude, Cal is not the first person anyone would invite to a social gathering. But his mother Orphne is influential and therefore Cal is often present at high-class parties.
Cerberus*animated and characterized by Disney
This giant, foul-tempered three-headed black hound guards the entrance to the Underworld, attempting to deter any intruders, including Hades himself.
Charon*animated and characterized by Disney
Charon is the Ferryman for the River Styx. His boat is, most often, Hades' own personal transport, and the imps are forbidden to ride. Charon is well-known for his almost complete lack of personality, and definate complete lack of conversation. He is generally considered "creepy" by many.
Clotho*animated and characterized by Disney
Clotho the Spinner is the Fate of the Past. She is responsible for spinning the Thread of Life for each mortal on Earth. She is the oldest Fate and often bosses her sisters around.
Clymene
Clymene is the epitome of the classic nymph: petite, voluptuous, and alluring. However, she also just can't resist a good prank, and often relies on her good looks and charm to win over a victim before striking.
Cyane
Cyane is tall, gangly, yet very graceful. Flighty and prone to hysterics, this nymph is well-known for screaming at just the wrong time.
Demeter *animated but not characterized by Disney in the movie
A "woman's woman," Demeter has had it with men and their "mightier-than-thou" attitude. Determined not to ever submit to any man, Demeter holds her absolute power over the soil directly over the heads of the Earthly men who tend it. But don't be fooled--this "Mother Earth" can be truly matronly at times
Dread
One of the six imps who run the Underworld under orders from Hades. Dread is always certain that the end of the world is near, and/or that he will be in trouble for any given thing that he does. The others are constantly tired of having to listen to him whine, and are fond of pushing him into the River Styx.
Eos
One of the four horses which pull Helios' chariot. Eos is perhaps the slowest-witted of the four.
Hades *animated and characterized by Disney
Literally trapped in his work, Hades is less than content with his lot. A real shmoozer, this god knows how to get what he wants, however--at least, usually.
Helios *animated but not characterized by Disney in the movie
The Sun God, and the driver of the chariot which is essentially the Sun itself. Helios is most known for his slight air-headedness. The four wild immortal horses which pull the chariot are Aethon, Eos, Phlegon, and Pyrois.
Hera *animated and characterized by Disney
Hera is the Goddess of Marriage and Birth, and Queen of the Gods and wife of Zeus. She is a stern and observant woman, and her path is best left uncrossed when she is in a judgemental mood. The rest of the time, she is a fair and gentle Queen.
Iris
Iris is the beautiful Goddess of the rainbow and messenger of the gods to mankind. She is sort of Hera's personal messenger, and the other gods must wait their turn to utilise her services if she is already on a mission for Hera.
Lachesis*animated and characterized by Disney
Lachesis the Disposer is the Fate of the Present. She is responsible for holding each Thread of Life taut for snipping for each mortal on Earth. She is the middle sister and constantly tries to draw attention to herself.
Orphne
A very influential nymph, Orphne is well-known in high-standing social circles. She is prim and proper at all times.
Pain *animated and characterized by Disney
One of the six imps who run the Underworld under orders from Hades, and one of the two imps who work directly under the same. Pain is overly clumsy and therefore is constantly hurting. His occasional spurts of creativity are what landed him the position he now holds, as one of Hades' primary servants.
Pallor
One of the six imps who run the Underworld under orders from Hades. Pallor is the ultimate hypochondriac. He is always convinced that he has contracted some horrible, exotic wasting disease, and is often too lethargic to do much of anything.
Panic *animated and characterized by Disney
One of the six imps who run the Underworld under orders from Hades, and one of the two imps who work directly under the same. Bug-eyed and nervous, Panic is a walking stress-attack. His occasional spurts of insight are what landed him the position he now holds, as one of Hades' primary servants.
Persephone
Persephone's parents, Demeter and Posiedon, seperated long ago, leaving Persephone with a sour image of men (this coupled with Demeter's opinions--you can imagine the result). Spoiled (and more strong-willed than she lets on), Persephone is a match for any emotional challenge. This is one girl who knows how to manipulate others. But between her frequent temper tantrums, Persephone's empathetic and gentle side shines through. She does some serious maturing while trapped in the Underworld.
Phlegon
One of the four horses which pull Helios' chariot. It is well-known that Phlegon is Helios' personal favorite of the team.
Poseidon *animated but not characterized by Disney
Despite his great power, the god of the sea is considered a real loser by the other Olympians. Poseidon is obnoxiously oblivious to his own shortcomings: he talks too much, he gambles too much, he borrows too much--just to get you started. And--his forgetfulness is legendary.
Pyrois
One of the four horses which pull Helios' chariot. Pyrois is the gentlest and most handleable of the four (which is still pretty wild compared to mortal horses).
Strife
One of the six imps who run the Underworld under orders from Hades. Strife is loud, rude, and never afraid to voice her opinion, which is always negative. She'll get in anyone's face, even Hades', and often her companions must go to drastic measures to shut her up before they all get in trouble. She is primarily responsible for enforcing rules in the Underworld.
Terror
One of the six imps who run the Underworld under orders from Hades. Terror is afraid of everything, even something she has seen every day for ten years. Her sniveling and whimpering can often be heard halfway across the Underworld--Hades claims he keeps her around for "atmosphere."
Zeus *animated and characterized by Disney
Physically intimidating, a bit overbearing, and overly fond of bad jokes, Zeus stands out in any crowd. Despite his eccentricities, this god is generally liked by the other Immortals--most of them, anyways. But when he gets mad--look out!

Characterizations on this page, other than those specified Disney, are ©C. "Sparky" Read (with a little help from Homer, Hesiod, and all them. ;*)
